100th Congress of the BDA
Centenary celebrations captured on See Hear!: Episode 1
By John Walker
The 100th congress of the British Deaf Association was hosted by the late Princess of Wales, Diana, who was the patron of the organisation. This two part documentary of the congress provides a complete view of how Brighton was transformed to a memorable home for this event.
Little did they know that the first President of the BDDA was born in Brighton, less than a mile from the conference centre (see Rev. William B. Sleight).
Below is the See Hear programme with Maureen and Clive, the presenters at the time. The programmes mostly cover the fringe activities of the congress, although it provides an excellent snapshot of the Deaf community, Brighton and the state of affairs in the UK at the time.
This episode of See Hear! is shown with thanks to the BBC. It is aired for non-commercial interests and solely for the reminiscence of Deaf people's lives in Sussex.
