Gavin Lilley

Gavin is a native BSL user having grown up in a Deaf family; he has an unwavering passion for Sign Languages and teaching which he discovered during his work as a Project Officer at the University of Central Lancashire, developing a key BSL curriculum for HE and as a BSL/International Sign Lecturer. Following his previous post as an Employment Adviser with Dering Employment Ltd, he now teaches BSL Levels 2 and 3 at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne. Gavin is also a research assistant at the University of Sussex, partaking in a number of Deaf community and Sign Language research projects, including this one at sussexdeafhistory.org.uk.

Gavin is fluent in Finnish, Finnish Sign Language, International Sign and has some experience with American, German and a handful of other Sign Languages. Gavin has a BA Honours Degree in Deaf Studies, holds NVQ4 in BSL, ‘K’ Level (the highest grade) Finnish Sign Language, Certificates in American Sign Language (ASL), Sign Linguistics, International Sign, a PG Cert in Teaching, PTTLS, and currently on the CTLLS course and registered with the Institute for Learning (IFL). 

His goal is to raise the standard and profile of all signed languages and the enrichment of the Deaf community. They deserve it.
