Eastbourne Deaf Club (EDC) hosted their summer BBQ on Friday 24th June, which was attended by Deaf Cultural Outreach Group (DeafCOG). A newly established group of Deaf professionals, who are at present giving of their own time to raise the awareness of newly established social enterprise.

The aim is to provide access to user-led services for Deaf people in East Sussex, provided by Deaf people themselves, in their preferred language.

The BBQ was a huge success with all of the one hundred tickets being sold out to people all over Sussex. Eastbourne Deaf Club and DeafCOG has the support of Stephen Lloyd, MP for Eastbourne and Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Deafness. Mr Lloyd attended the social evening and gave his patronage to the new service.

The proceeds will go back to Eastbourne Deaf Club to continue provide the invaluable space for Deaf people to meet and socialise. Stephen Lloyd said, “it was a pleasure to attend the Eastbourne Deaf Club Summer BBQ, I know them well and always feel I am amongst friends.“ John Lilley, Chairman of the Deaf Club said, “ all went well last Friday at the BBQ. The profit came to £322, this will go into Eastbourne Deaf Club's fund, that will support the cost of the hall.”
